No Body, No Parole

Sep 23, 2022

“No Body, No Parole” laws have been put forward after the grim trial of Chris Dawson and the sordid details of the murder of his wife, Lynette Dawson.

Over 30 years has passed since the tragically mysterious disappearance of Lynette. In a drawn out and painful to witness hearing earlier this year the details surrounding the suspicious circumstances; and ultimately, the murder of a beloved person were heard. One of the saddest parts of this story, though there were many for those following along at home, was the fact that Lynette’s body is still unrecovered. There is still no proper closure, even with the guilty verdict; no ability to put her to rest with respect to those who still mourn the loss.

So, where does that leave things?

I’m sure, like many, you have thought to yourself, “why are they walking free?”, when you have seen people on parole or ending their sentences early after they had been convicted of something; especially the more bleak or heinous crimes. The “no body, no parole” laws will be there to stop murderers from gaining parole if they have been unhelpful in the investigation or with police. These people will need to disclose the location of the victims body, or they will not be eligible for parole. A ‘life sentence’ will be truly that. For life.

These laws will hopefully bring more peace and closure to the families and loved ones of the victims; as well as helping to lessen the number of murder crimes that end without the discovery of a body. However, for those truly innocent, they have the potential for severe prejudice on sentence.

What do you think of the new laws? Let us know your thoughts and if you think they will help or hurt murder cases.
