Philip Cowdery
With more than 20 years’ experience, Philip has guided private and government clients through complex insurance, commercial, regulatory and administrative matters, as well as high-level investigations and inquiries. He is known for helping clients make early, informed decisions, avoiding litigation where possible and pursuing strategic outcomes when it is necessary.
Philip’s practice covers a broad range of insurance and commercial claims, including public liability, government risk, policy coverage, recovery actions, employer liability and risk management strategies. He also advises on shareholder and partnership disputes, misleading and deceptive conduct, breach of contract and indemnity issues, property and IT disputes, Corporations Act and Contract Review Act matters, investigations and inquiries, and contract administration.
With a strong focus on risk identification and early resolution, Philip ensures his clients understand the legal and commercial implications of every step. Where litigation is unavoidable, he brings strategic foresight and a cost-conscious approach, exploring negotiation and alternative dispute resolution at the earliest opportunity.
Beyond his legal practice, Philip is an avid golfer at Avondale, enjoys skiing, and relishes time with his two young adult sons. The only non-negotiable in his diary is cheering them on from the sidelines at their weekend sporting commitments, a streak he has proudly maintained for more than a decade for both. A lifelong learner, he values mentorship within a team and helps keep our junior lawyers sharp, supported and inspired.
